“Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman” made my heart hurt. While reading it, it reminded me of Ishmael Beah’s book “A Long Way Gone” because they were both books that I would have preferred to be fictional. Today, most people know the story of Pat Tillman, through the media reports, the congressional hearings and the recently-released documentary, “The Tillman Story.”

Listened to the audio-book of this.
This was a compelling and well researched account of not just the death of Pat Tillman (and subsequent cover-up) but of the Afghan war and the nature of fratricide in the military in general. Several of the events discussed overlapped with other books read this year on the current wars, including Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army, Generation Kill, and The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How The War on Terror Turned into a War on Am ...more
