Thanks to the friend who recommended this. I am not a serious runner, though I have at times had 3-5 mile jogging routines. This book on people who run constantly is fascinating. Anytime I enjoy a book about something I don't really have an interest in, that's some decent writing. The book also help take my mind away from more troubling matters. For anyone with even a mild interesting in running, this book will provide you with lots of info to question what you might have thought about it.

I must admit I was skeptical when my brother Dave recommended this book as I figured it would be a rehashed version of a psuedo interesting running diatribe. And as a lover of running, I have grown tired of the some of these efforts but boy was I wrong.
This book is brilliant. The main story line is inspiring, hilarious, and engaging with an absurdly diverse but fascinating set of characters. And the (frequent) plot tangents are just as entertaining as McDougall ponders the history, evolution, p ...more

I heard about this book in runner's forums on the internet and on The Daily Show. It sounded interesting, and anytime someone gives it a raving review, I feel like I have to see what it's all about.

This is a good book. My review might not sound like I enjoyed but I did. The book just had so much more potential that if fell short when you measure it on that scale. I also have some personal bias for writing that makes me think less of this book. Besides my own personal issues I think this book could have flowed a little better. It seemed like he went around talking to so many amazing researchers, scientists, and runners that I would have enjoyed hearing a lot more about them and their knowle

I read a review of this book, thought it sounded interesting, and put it on hold at the library. When I checked it out I couldn't remember why I thought I would want to read it - but once I started, I was hooked! Great storytelling, but even better I am so interested in the idea that the plainer the running shoe (or no shoe at all) the better you will be at running, and injury free to boot. Plus the bits about eating vegan and having the stamina for ultramarathons has really got me thinking. Rea
