Who reached "the fun age"? Was it Emira the black baby sitter who early in the book has a confrontation in an upscale super market late one night while with her charge? Maybe Alix, the white mom who hired Emira? Maybe true to stereotype, it was Briar the toddler who seemed to get along better with Emira than her own mother.
