Morrison is truly a master of her craft. She uses both the ambiguity and clarity of language to weave a story that is poetic and mysterious, yet somehow familiar. I would not quite be able to call Beloved timeless, however. It feels, and is, a period piece. I wrote a review for this and then returned years later because I cannot get away from this book.
