Up until a few years ago, I wouldn't be caught dead reading this book. I had a thing with "girl books" and "Chick Lit". I hate pretty much everything that's girlie. Pink is not a color I want to wear on a regular basis. I've even been known to turn down a pair of sneakers because the shoes had pink trim. Sports clothes that are pink? Ick! Started the book many times before I ever finished it because i just couldn't bear to read anymore when everything looks so bleak! I finally made it through and now have read it many times. Favorite quote from Jane Eyre...

While I recognize what an important piece of literature this is, it was not all that interesting to me. My favorite sections were when she was living with Rochester and strange things were going bump in the night. I felt the beginning was just tragedy upon tragedy being heaped upon poor Jane and the end wrapped up a little too neatly for me.
What extraordinary writing. This is so much better than I ever expected. I'm glad I didn't read it until I was an adult. I'm able to appreciate it so more much now than I think I ever could of when I was younger. It means so much more to me now.
