I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, in a good way, and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I wasn't even going to pick this up when I saw it on the shelf of my library, but I know people on this site as well as youtube say that this book was really good and worth reading so I decided to pick it up and give it a try. Glad I did.

This is a 3.5 for me. This is a creepy and interesting book. What keeps this book from being a solid 4 is that I feel like the pictures distract from the story. I know that the story is built around them but the vintage, creepy pictures just pulled me out of the adventure I was trying to lose myself in. I like the idea that there are people with weird abilities hiding in the world and for the most part I felt that the author did well in describing the children and their world. Fun read. Unique story. Felt more like an intro to a bigger world, as I was hoping for a bit more meat to the story. Felt like a fleshed out screenplay rather than a fantasy tale.
