This is a 3.5 for me. This is a creepy and interesting book. What keeps this book from being a solid 4 is that I feel like the pictures distract from the story. I know that the story is built around them but the vintage, creepy pictures just pulled me out of the adventure I was trying to lose myself in. I like the idea that there are people with weird abilities hiding in the world and for the most part I felt that the author did well in describing the children and their world. I really liked this book. It started as a reread because I got the sequels, and I couldn't remember the details of the first. Then, I watched to movie because my students said it was hard to follow without reading the book. (It's not.) Well, I thought I hadn't seen it, but I had. And when I got to the end of the book, it was nothing like the movie which made me wonder if I ever finished the book the first time as I have no memory of it. I found so many parts to connect to.
