What Members Thought
Unlike a lot of people, I did not read this and than transition to other paranormal romance. I instead started with J.R. Ward's incomparable Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I had of course heard the buzz surrounding the series (I'd have to either be in a coma or living under a rock not to), but until I got into paranormal romance this year I didn't have much interest in reading it. I bought this as the snow storm approached on Friday and I've been compulsively reading ever since. Highly recommended by many of my students and it's....good. LOTS of clunky writing, but the story is good and I like the metaphors--boys/men are monsters/ sex and love are dangerous etc...The main characters are good etc and I like getting in on a phenomenon to see for myself what the allure is--break it down to: girls/women like bad boys who are no good for them but are also good kissers....

I so wish that I had read the book before watching the movie. The movie is NEVER as good as the book and I won't make that mistake with New Moon.
I am not a fan of Kristen Stewart. I think they could have cast someone much better to play Bella, and after watching her muck up the movie, it took me a good 200 pages or so in the book to get past that.
But once I did, I fell in love with the book. I turned the last page and immediately picked up New Moon.

It wasn't terrible but it wasn't really good. It reads like a bad fanfic. But at least now I can say I've read it and mock it with knowledge!
