What Members Thought
This was one of my most anticipated reads for this year, and I was excited to read the whole series, that is, until I read the first book. I really enjoy fantasies that have protagonists who are people of color and are empowered. I like that there are so many new books that explore different cultural perspectives while also creating interesting fantasy worlds. I was so excited for this novel. I love the idea of the story, but the overwhelming amount of female trauma was not needed. It is supposed to be YA, not adult. I will not be recommending this book.
It’s pretty dark and brutal for a YA book, but it’s so good. I couldn’t put it down once I started it.
