The trees were full of crows and the woods were full of madmen. The pit was full of bones and her hands were full of wires.

Nettle & Bone has to be one of the few books in the last year that I have come across that felt original, horrifyingly beautiful, and creative. While, I have moved passed my phase of "fairytales" and "retellings"...this one just stood out to me. I loved the premise/idea that the book had to offer and I didn't hesitate to delve in.

4.5 stars, rounded up. I loved it! It’s got kingdoms, princesses, evil regents, nuns, dust wives, fairy godmothers, curse children, sarcophagi, thief wheels, vengeful spirits, goblin markets, blistered lands, cursed cannibals and BONEDOGS!!

I love Kingfisher’s fascinating imagination and sense of humor. I have heard that some of her other books are more horror-focused, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get through all of her books (I can only handle so much horror), but I’m certainly going to tr ...more
