My first Ali Hazelwood definitely didn’t disappoint! I know this one is very different from her others, but I really enjoyed her writing and her character development. I will absolutely be checking out others by her soon!

As someone who doesn’t care one iota about chess, it’s amazing how invested into this storyline I became! Yes, there were definitely some things that I didn’t understand, but it didn’t take away anything from the story and my enjoyment of it. It’s very appro ...more

Another Ali Hazelwood I thought was cute. I am NOT a chess player and I thought I would be bored with this book not knowing much about the game of chess but I was far from bored and near the end I even got a tad bit choked up.

I loved the friendship between Nolan and Mallory and I liked the home dynamic of Mallory stepping in to care for her sisters in the wake of a debilitating illness her mother suffers from. Her dad has passed but while he was living he passed down his love of chess and his br ...more
