Started this with high expectations that weren't really met. Not that this is not a well-written, plot-driven book with interesting characters. It very much is.

It just wasn't my cup of tea, and YA fantasy in general has been giving me this feeling lately. So, it's probably a matter of not enjoying the genre so much anymore, than not really liking this book in particular.

I am so excited to have found an awesome new fantasy series! I read this book in one day because I had to know what happened. The main characters are awesome bad-ass girls and the supporting characters are great too. There was magic, political intrigue, complex world building. I loved it. I also liked that it didn't feel as dense as epic fantasies tend to and I was able to get through it without feeling a lag in the pace or that it was dragging out. I will definitely be picking up the next book. ...more

52 Book Challenge: Read a book that is a sub-genre of a favorite - witches sub-genre of Fantasy? I'm going to count it.

Slow to start, I had a hard time getting into it, but once I did, I loved it. Will be reading the sequel next. Safi is a little annoying but I like Isuelt quite a bit. The portrayal of the friendships is top notch.
