Honestly I'm just happy I finally finished. 600 pages of what exactly? I really hate when books are noticeably drawn out. Is it just to torture us readers?? There was absolutely no reason why this book shouldn't have been 400 pages. Practically nothing happened until around 60% in. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this series and I'm not impressed at all. I felt compelled to write my review after perusing my own reviews (yes--I know--bad author). But I feel the need to stand up for this book because--yes--it is lengthy and complex--yes the main character is vain and flighty. But what Libba has done here is to resurrect a period in time with such vivid accuracy it takes my breath away. I am astounded by the level of research that went into this, and even more impressed at the use of real locations (I am a New York City resident). I love the slang!
