This wasn't too bad for a beauty and the beast retelling. Honestly, out of all the fairy tales this is one of my least favorites. But the book was solid. One of my biggest issues was that at times it was trying too hard to be poetic and fairy-tale like and it took away from the reality of the book. I should probably recuse myself from reviewing this one because I love Beauty and the Beast retellings. I really loved this one, not for the romance (actually there was very little of it until the end) but because it is usually the heroine that is the strong one of the tale. It was a surprise to find that the "love" part of the story does not start until about 3/4 of the way through the book. The writer chose to focus more on "the hunt". What is it that a person desires? Are people simply following what is expected of them or carving out a new path? What is it that you tru ...more

Wonderful Beauty and the Beast retelling, I felt it combined with the world of East of the Sun, west of the Moon.
