What Members Thought

A good book can take places you’ve never been.
A great book not only takes you to places you’ve never been, but has those places linger in your thoughts after the final page is turned.
In the past couple of months, I’ve read two books that have taken me outside my typical worldview and have lingered in my thoughts long after the final page was turned. The first was the much (deservedly so) lauded The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and the other, as unlikely as it may seem, was a new collection of Ma ...more

I am blown away. Wow. What a book. the voices given to the characters, the communities described, the various mentalities explored, the main character's "identity" crisis and the hot relevance of the plot.

Timely. Brilliant. Heartbreaking. I want to buy everyone in America this book to encourage an authentic conversation on how to dissolve institutionalized racism.
And I have much respect to an author that puts a spotlight on the insights and poetry of Tupac Shakur. A part of my youth left me the day he was murdered. I'll never forget that day. ...more
