This is a difficult but important read. In fact, it should be required reading in schools. ESPECIALLY FOR THE WHITE KIDS. In fact, maybe anyone in a public office should read this. Although judging the outcry by some of my fellow whites at being asked to wear a mask to help stop the spread of a deadly contagion, I'm not sure how well that would go down.
As I said, a difficult read. Not because I don't believe in white privilege, I do. But because I seem to have an overinflated sense of justice in ...more

I am blown away. Wow. What a book. the voices given to the characters, the communities described, the various mentalities explored, the main character's "identity" crisis and the hot relevance of the plot.
My eyes watered in several places, from Star reliving Khalil's death on television, to her revealing that officer turned his gun on her to others, to the Garden Height community coming together in crisis, to her finding out her friends, her real ones, were always willing to accept her.

If I could I would give this book more then five stars. It was incredible!
There is nothing I can add in a review that hasn't already been said, I am sure, so I will let those who are far better with words then I am say it for me.
This should be required reading in school. It should be read by all conservatives. It should be read and re-read many times. ...more

Hands Down!!! One of the best books I have listened to this year. Keep in mind, it does have a lot of mature language and some descriptive violence and at times, was a little jarring.
I think it was appropriate for the characters and the situations and don't feel that any of it was gratuitous.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with caution for those who want to avoid language. ...more

Another 5 star book of the year.
WARBIYASAK.
Gak perlu lah bahas ceritanya ya, baca ...more
