I found this to be a very worthy successor to An Ember in the Ashes with good character development and a plot that hummed along nicely with good twists and turns. And I'm very glad Sabaa decided to write two more books in this series. She could have ended it here, but it honestly felt like there's a lot more story to tell and I'm glad that she's going to. ...more

This book definitely had some interesting developments. I am very curious to see what happens next. Like the first book, this one is quite enjoyable. I didn't like some of the turns a few characters took, but they righted themselves eventually. We learn a lot more about the major players--Elias, Laia, the Commandant, Marcus, Keenan and more. Overall I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see how things wrap up. The audio version is great because it has separate readers for Laia, Helene and Elia ...more

I took longer to read this than the first one since it wasn't quite as good, but it was still awesome. Especially the last half of the book. I really could not put it down while reading the last half.

I really don't know if I can't wait for the next one.

I re-listened since it’s been a couple years so I could finish the series. So many up and down emotions! Elias and Laia have escaped and now need to free her brother.
