Every time I read a Jennifer L. Armentrout novel, I always become so absorbed and invested in the story. I feel like with each new book her stories keep getting more and more awesome and exciting! The third book in the Covenant series, Deity, is no exception, and it is by far my favorite out of all the books and novellas I've read by JLA. It was that good!

Every time I read a Jennifer L. Armentrout novel, I always become so absorbed and invested in the story. I feel like with each new book her stories keep getting more and more awesome and exciting! The third book in the Covenant series, Deity, is no exception, and it is by far my favorite out of all the books and novellas I've read by JLA. It was that good!

Since finishing, my emotions for Deity have been all over the place. Part of me is ecstatic, the other part is terrified. I don't know if I want to pass out and melt over some of the things that happened in this book... Or freak the hell out over some of the other things that happened. As I had hoped in my review for Pure, there were plenty of answers and revelations in Deity! Some confirmed suspicions I've had from the previous books. And some were completely unexpected and shocking. It felt non-stop, and all of it left me stunned and amazed.

I'm very impressed with how much Alex has grown and matured. She is such a wonderful character! Although her decisions might not always make everyone happy, I admire her for following her heart and doing what she feels is right. She is such a compassionate person and is just trying to do her best with what she has. I really feel for her because she has already gone through so much. It's pretty heartbreaking when all you want is happiness for the character, knowing there's still more they'll have to overcome. But I believe in Alex and know with her determination and strength and the support from other characters she'll make it through.

One of the major events in the book occurred at the end. I can't tell you what happened because obviously it would be a spoiler (and trust me, you do NOT want to be spoiled about anything). However, I will say that Deity ends with a cliffhanger, and it was...insane! This is what I thought when I finished: 'Shit just got real!' I didn't see it coming. But it pretty much explains everything that has helped lead up to that moment. There are times where I wonder if I'm freaking out about it way too much, and then I realize I can't help it with all the theories going through my mind. Besides, cliffhangers usually cause that type of reaction, so I'm going to continue biting my nails nervously and try to figure out what happens while I wait for the release of the next book.

I have to mention the romance before ending this review, since it plays a big role in the series and it's one of the things I looked forward to in Deity. The romance was definitely at the center of some of my favorite parts in the book. I don't like to sound cheesy, but honestly, I teared up at some moments because the romance was really really beautiful and passionate. My heart was close to bursting! And I do feel like I understand the love-triangle a lot more. I had already liked all the characters involved; Deity just made me appreciate them even more. There are huge surprises, and I understand why the things that occurred ended up happening. I'm dying to know how it will all work out because even without the romance, I really just want Alex, Aiden, and Seth to be happy by the end of the series. They all deserve it.

Deity was a stunning and heart-pounding installment in the Covenant series. It is the best and easily my favorite in the series so far. I have no idea how Jennifer L. Armentrout will top this book in Apollyon and Sentinel. All I know is that those last books are going to be completely epic and awesome too! And thankfully Aiden's novella Elixir will be released before then, and I'll be able to get my much needed JLA and Covenant fix. I cannot wait! ...more

Wow. This book had some great stuff in it. Definitely a page turner. I wanted to spend all day reading it until I finished. I love the characters, the action, the danger. It has been a while since I read the second book but I couldn't wait to get to this one. It didn't take me long to get back into the storyline and I didn't have to go back a reread what had happened. I was worried about that, but it all came quickly back to me. I was immersed into this world rather quickly.

From the amazing character progression to that darn cliffhanger and everywhere in between, Deity knocked my socks off with its action, stunning-as-always plot, and steamy scenes between Alex and Aiden. So, where to begin?

As always, we pick up right after the last book, Pure, left off. Almost right away, we get a grasp that the stakes are as high as ever. As an un-Awakened half-blood, Alex is still somewhat at the mercy of her more powe Oh my gosh. I don’t even know where to begin with this book. From the amazing character progression to that darn cliffhanger and everywhere in between, Deity knocked my socks off with its action, stunning-as-always plot, and steamy scenes between Alex and Aiden. So, where to begin?

As always, we pick up right after the last book, Pure, left off. Almost right away, we get a grasp that the stakes are as high as ever. As an un-Awakened half-blood, Alex is still somewhat at the mercy of her more powerful and Awakened Apollyon counterpart, Seth, the attractive, infuriating, and somewhat dark guy who loves to annoy the crap out of Alex at every opportunity. Moreover, Seth seems hell-bent on trying to Awaken Alex early—and getting more runes on her body means that she and Seth have some pretty personal encounters between the two of them. Alex, of course, is still in love with Aiden, but her Apollyon bond still draws her to Seth, sometimes against her will.

Literally the only reason I’m giving this four stars instead of five is because I’m personally a bit bitter about how the whole Seth thing turned out. I was really rooting for him to come out on top and prove that he was better than his birthright… Somehow I always end up gunning for the guys I know won’t end up with the main heroine but I still do it anyway. I dunno. I always end up supporting the underdogs, even if they turn out to be gigantic backstabbing cusses like Seth. How I feel about Seth:

I really loved Alex and Seth’s dynamic going into this third book, and for the most part I still do, despite everything that ended up happening. I think Seth represents inhibition, whereas Aiden is more like the pure, unadulterated fairy tale love that we always encounter in YA books but never really see in real life—this is probably why I’ve always rooted for Seth to come out ahead. Alex hasn’t stopped believing in Seth having good in him somewhere, so neither will I. That being said, suffice it to say that by the end of Deity I was (albeit reluctantly) Team Aiden, since he has more than proved himself to be right for Alex, and vice versa. We’ll see if that changes.

As for Alex and Aiden, one of the things I truly loved about this book was their coming to terms with the fact that their love was stronger than any forces trying to tear them apart, including the “fated” Apollyon bond between Seth and Alex. Alex and Aiden have such raw chemistry, and Ms. Armentrout sure knows how to write an UST-filled scene to make it leap off the page. I swear, Deity does this even better than Pure or Half-Blood. And the character progression both Alex and Aiden experience through their interactions with each other? Pitch-perfect. Alex has always been a strong female character, but something about her love for Aiden really takes her to the next level. I like characters who can see past their own problems and acknowledge that sometimes sacrifices must be made. The Alex of the past two books wasn’t really at that point, but the Alex of Deity was willing to make those sacrifices to protect those she cared about, namely Aiden. Alex is growing up, in more ways than one.

I haven’t even gotten to the plot just yet. Like I mentioned briefly before, the stakes have really ratcheted up… Alex is close to coming into her own as an Apollyon, which creates tons of problems because Seth can just take her power whenever he pleases to make himself stronger—and to turn him into the Godkiller that everyone so fears. Also, another wrinkle introduced is the fact that the gods are now personally intervening. Apollo, Artemis, and Hades both make guest appearances, and other gods are mentioned as well. Let’s just say that I’m a sucker for Hades and Armentrout’s portrayal of him in all his dark glory didn’t disappoint. Not to mention Alex’s personal connection with Apollo and Artemis—a very nice touch, I think, and that definitely is a good enough reason as to why the gods are starting to intervene on Alex’s behalf. The mere fact that gods are intervening in mortal affairs is one of many signals that the world is changing, and that a war is upon Alex’s world.

I really got a sense of unease and worry throughout the book as more and more things started to go wrong, and at the end of the book I could see where Armentrout was heading with the series. I’m pretty sure the next confrontation between the gods and humans will be nothing short of epic, and I can’t wait to get my hands on Apollyon and find out! Deity was a fast-paced, consuming book from start to finish, with the romance and action parts equally balanced. If you haven’t started this series by now, you’re truly missing out!

OMG Jennifer has done it with this one. I think it will take me a few days to come down from the whole book! There was nothing I didn't like about this. Well except maybe one thing, the very overly tame Alex/Aiden copulating stuff. Even for YA I think there was a bit more leeway in there for details. Anyway that aside every page awesome and I'm gonna need to take some time to recover from my disappointment in Seth and the cliff hanger of an ending! ...more
