Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, it does. Just when I thought Maas couldn't shock me anymore, she does. I'm honestly not even sure where to start with this review. I think I'll start with the romance. I find Maas to be a very daring writer, not many authors would start out with a seemingly guaranteed love interest, Chaol, and one maybe love interest, Dorian, only to break up Aelin and Chaol in book two, (view spoiler) Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, it does. Just when I thought Maas couldn't shock me anymore, she does. I'm honestly not even sure where to start with this review. I think I'll start with the romance. I really liked where Maas left things romantically for her characters, one thing I have always hated about love triangles is that someone always gets hurt, so I'm very glad that Maas found a way to resolve her love triangle without anyone getting hurt and the chance of love for all. And speaking of the characters, my oh my... (view spoiler) (view spoiler) (view spoiler) (view spoiler) (view spoiler) (view spoiler) (view spoiler) Aelin was just awesome on every level! We learn even more about her and her past and she grows even more as a character and it was awesome seeing her finally embrace her destiny as queen of Terrasen and kick a lot of serious butt along the way. The plot, oh my goodness, the plot! It was amazing on every single level! It made me laugh, it made me gasp, it made my eyes almost bulge out of my head, it had me on the edge of my seat, it was everything a fantasy novel should be. Here, it truly does start to live up to the mantle of being a Game Of Thrones for teenagers. Starting with the last book, this series has fully become high fantasy. And it has all the intricacy and gasp worthy moments that Game Of Thrones is known for. I already touched on a lot of plot points where I talked about the characters, so I'll just be discussing here what I didn't up there. Wow. This book had some very satisfying turns. I'm sad that Aelin and Chaol's romance is truly over though. I always liked him, but Rowan is definitely more on her level in lots of ways. It will be interesting to see what becomes of that, what with him being immortal and her not. Anyway, I hated watching Dorian's struggle, but was satisfied with the outcome. I actually enjoyed the Manon parts in this book and am looking forward to seeing what choices she makes in the next two books. Some much wa ...more
