I am having a ball reading books for the 19th-century lit class I hope to teach this fall. Having not read this one since college, I was amazed how much more I enjoyed it, this go-round. From its larger-than-life characters, imperfectly "contained" by unreliable narrators, to its symmetrical structure, to its setting, to its moments of unexpected humor, this was a page-turner and whomping good read.
