This particular book, I read about 13-15 years ago which would have been sometime between 2006-2009. During this time, I had just discovered Ellen Hopkin's books and had fallen in love with them as she talked and touched on what was normally seen as taboo topics for teenage fiction. I will first say that I was not expecting what I 'read' (in this case listened to). I honestly thought 'fire' would be a part of the plot line. Boy am I glad I was wrong. I don't even know where to begin with this book, hence it taking more than a month to review it.

Wow, OK I *hated* that ending. Not so much what it was, but things just happened WAY too fast and then BAM the end. UGH. Debating between 4 or 3.5 stars for this one. I will definitely be picking up more verse books though!

For some reason it took me a long time to read this book but now in retrospect, I'm glad! The ending of this book was a total cliffhanger and I'm glad I didn't have to wait the 6-7 years for the next to be released.

The writing in this book of course is incredible and really resonates with the reader. I felt like I really knew Pattyn and felt every bump and turn in her life. I felt such anger toward the church and her father. I finished the book in a couple of hours and when I looked up, I was s
