The plot of The Magus is convoluted at best, but it may be more accurate to call it outlandish. On top of that, the writing is incredibly pretentious (think literary allusions, tossed among art references, scattered with untranslated French). These sound like criticisms, but they are actually reasons why I loved The Magus (after all, à chacun son goût). As you may have gathered, this will not be an easy book to review.

Do pojawienia sie wojska bylam pewna, ze dam 5*. Pelen zachwyt - piekny jezyk, bardzo prawdziwe postacie i relacje miedzy nimi, odniesienia do literatury, sceneria...

Potem bylo juz tylko na 3*. Troche za duzo sie zrobilo tego wszystkiego jak na moj gust, wszak "co za duzo to niezdrowo". W rezultacie calosci daje 4* ...more

I was really drawn into this book. The main anti-hero, as he is described was going through the usual melodramatic love with someone who is emotionally pretty damaged and then ships himself off to Greece to kind of escape the life he hates. Once he is at his teaching post he meets a man who he knows is telling him lies and "falls in love" with another woman. The main character is never quite sure of who is lying to him and he is trapped in this game of sorts that exposes all kinds of psychologic ...more
