This book was long and boring that did not go anywhere,. The reason for me was that it was too slow, epsically the fact that the whole book is centered around one event that in most books would have taken at most 1/4 of the book to get done. The interaction of the characters was always the same, the past lifes of the character did not matter to me for the main hcaracter to make his decision.

This novel was difficult for me. As an avid Hemingway fan, I was surprised that it was so unlike other novels I've read by my beloved favorite author. Gone are the short sentences that makes Hemingway whom he is, at least for me.
He also uses the omniscient third person POV while shifting to Robert's and Pilar's POV. His use of archaic language also surprised me, and I believe that is what threw me. It was as if l was reading a direct translation from Spanish into English. But the 4 days and 3 ...more
