What Members Thought

I enjoyed this novel as much as his others. One thing that annoys me however is the petty and ridiculous comments regarding it. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it's also to remember although this book is written by a white male, that doesn't mean he can't explore the struggles of women and minorities. Being part of the "majority" doesn't discredit his work, it's merely one angle of one possibility of innumerable human experiences. Lighten up people. I liked it.

Remarkably similar to Mercy Among the Children by David Adams Richardswherein the author throws every possible adversity at the main character, while shouting "survive this if you can, you'll come out a better person in the end". Forgets to write an interesting narrative. Desperately needed an editor, perhaps this novel had one and it was originally 900 pages long as I'm sure Dolores could have suffered more.
