Full disclosure: While I plan to finish this book, I'm not done with it yet; I've just finished the five minutes that are actually based on the original story, the murder of Dinah's husband. I also am a Wiccan who has barely read any of the Bible, so my interest in this as a book is pretty much entirely literary. From the other reviews I'm seeing here, I'm not missing all that much.

This book greatly intrigued me. A fictional accout about a little tidbit from the bible. About a woman the good book gives us little information. I think Anita Diamant did an incredible job making these people seems like you could reach out and touch them.

I read this book, as a book club read. It was mostly favorably received and everyone agree it was nice getting a woman presective of the goings on of the Old Testament. Whose to say Anita didn't hit the nail on the head with her story of Dinah ...more

I gave this book five stars it was a picture in the lives of women around the 15th century. Interesting to see that the red tent was specially for women for birthing children to women issues. Great read.
