Okay, so it isn't all great in the Percy Jackson books. The plot isn't particularly imaginative, the attention to the original mythology isn't as close as you might want and the writing is somewhat careless now and then. It's formulaic in essence and so resembles the Harry P. franchise much like Avatar does Pocahontas. Yes, many jokes are lame. But these are children's books. The concept works.
