Read for #Victober, read a Victorian book by a female author.

Re-Read 2017

I still enjoyed this book, but not as much as I did as a teenager. I think it's because I could see all the issues Heathcliff had. This should really be looked at as a Gothic novel rather than a romance as many people do. There are way too many problems in the supposed relationship to be healthy even though there were relationships based like this in real life during that time and through to today.

I have to say...really thought I was going to dislike this book! These people are crazy. Heathcliff...although somewhat justified in his hate was totally wretched! He loved and loved much! I am always amazed at books deemed classics. This one followed a bunch of selfish, miserable people who took joy in making everyone around them miserable as well. I found the need to slap most of the characters during their hysterical and just plain crazy rants. I think this is even less of a love story than Romeo and Juliet, instead it a story of greed and obsession.

This is my second time reading Wuthering Heights, the first time being when I was a senior in college. I appreciate this book a lot more the second time around, and while I still prefer Jane Eyre to date, I definitely consider Wuthering Heights to be deserving of its praise. It is a very well-written book with an intricate plot. Emily Bronte was most definitely a genius.

Now I know I said that Jane Eyre hit the nail - this one is the burn the whole shi* to the ground thing, complete with the nail and wood metaphor.

One of my absolute favorite (and not just because the name's Catherine). I really like the book's character for a Victorian era, no wonder it was such a controversial thing back then. The story itself is like a sea storm, if compared to other whirlwind ones.

Such despicable, evil characters! Hate, love and revenge that goes on for generations! Tears, bl
