The Day of the Triffids is a fantastically cerebral work of fiction. All the way through the book Wyndham gives us concise yet dark slices of a post apocalypse England devastated in the most simple of ways.
Wyndham's downfall of man doesn't come about from alien plant creatures shooting lasers out of their faces, as some seem to expect from the novel (surely not helped by the 1960's film and most recent BBC adaptation)but instead from a simple yet widespread lack of sight across most of the glob ...more

I've never been a big fan of books where society descends into chaos through some cataclysmic event but this book truly is a classic and now I'm afraid that no other book in this genre can hold a flame to it :S
Thought provoking and as relevant now as it was back when it was written. A true modern classic imo. ...more
