the only reason that I gave this book four stars, not five was because this book is only half a book, not a full book

3.5 stars, and I'm rounding down because I find the Ironborn so ridiculously boring that I started groaning every time I read the name Greyjoy. I mean, really, do all of these characters really need their own POV chapters? I'd rather find out about whatever it is they're doing by means of straight exposition.

This was the one I liked best so far out of all of them. It was only from the perspective of half the characters, and it was probably the half of the characters I enjoy more. Additionally, I enjoyed the plot so well. There were so many little, delicious things that I found myself loving. I found it a lot faster going than the last two. I'm looking forward to finishing the series.

Surprisingly to me, this has been my favorite "Song of Ice and Fire" book yet. Novels as part of a series can be tricky, and I had thought I would not mind skipping this installment as my favorite POV characters were missing. However, Martin does so many things flawlessly in this book. Characters evolve and change, new intrigues emerge, and of course the backdrop is always so easily transfered from the page to one's imagination. Amazing.
