[close] I probably would not have started reading this if I had been aware that it is part of a series. It was enjoyable, but there are entirely too many sf series for me to want to start another. This tells of a mysterious giant hand that turns out to be part of a giant structure, which of course was made by aliens thousands of years ago. It has a good cast of characters, though there is not real depth to them. I did like that women were a main part of the story. It is told in a series of interviews by an unknown narrator who seems to have a great deal of power in studying the object. I found this to be a bit wearying after a while, but on the whole I liked it and may continue the series.
