The Alcyemst has been on my to read list for a long time. My 12 year old son read it about a year ago and really liked it but I have never gotten around to reading it. I recently found an audio copy available for free download from our library so decided to give this book a try.

This book was irritating to read. The author skipped from viewpoint to viewpoint over the course of a chapter and stated, then re-stated, re-emphasized, and re-hashed particulars as if he expected his audience to have the memory of a flea. The dialogue was stinted, the characters, which should and could have been rich and memorable were flat. The main characters and their motivations were annoying and made very little sense, Josh in particular. I won't be continuing this series.

It was okay. Nothing truly amazing. I found myself skipping around a bit. Not sure if I'm interested enough to pick up the next book.

This was a great start to an intriguing series. I enjoyed the action and the puzzle of it all. I hope the next books are just as good.
What a clever idea for a book! I loved so many things about this book. It was well written and exciting, and Scott incorporated the stories and characters of myth and legend (as well as a few real life legends) into a plausible story seamlessly.
I thought this was a cute story. Immortals, alchemysts & twins with powers. Good youth read.
Very well imagined.
