I took this book to read while backpacking over the weekend because it is small and easily fit in my pack. I had read it before at about 11 or 12 years old and it is still a great book! I love the main characters courage and determination. I wanted to be her when I was younger, and I still seek adventure as an adult. I'm excited to hand it over to my 11 year old to read!

Typically I don’t care for adventure tales, but I rather liked The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Part mystery, part historical fiction; this Young Adult (maybe even children’s?) novel had a captivating storyline that kept me turning the pages. I liked the strong narration from Charlotte, a young girl from the upper classes who is exposed to the rough life of a sailor while journeying back home to America in the 1800s. I really enjoyed this story! One of my top picks. It's every young girl's dream to break loose from the expectations and confines of her parents and society and fulfill her own destiny! This is juvenile literature, but as many of my friends know, these are my favorite types of books. A clean, quick read that leaves you smiling.
