AUGUST 2012: Just re-read (technically re-listened) to this one in anticipation of the sequel coming out this month. Loved this book all over again!

MAY 2007: So the latest books I’ve read … I haven’t exactly enjoyed. I mean, I do finish them and everything, so they must have been okay, but it’s not like I was ever reaching for my book multiple times a day, binging on pages. I’ve kind of missed that.

I think I would've rated this higher if I was younger :) This was definitely for maybe a junior high audience, but it was still enjoyable.

A Robin Mckinley type heroine. I love stories when the protaganist feels worthless in the beginning but then discovers her true worth and talents. This book is a perfect example of that. It is nice too when a little fantasy is thrown in!
This book is much like three other books I've read by Shannon Hale. It was rather entertaining, but quite predictable. I felt like the ending was somewhat abrupt and could have ended after another chapter...in my oh-so-humble-opinion.

I really like this author and books written for young adults. It was a very interesting storyline and I loved the characters. I could hardly put it down after I started reading it.
One of my favorite things about this book was my complete inability to predict what would happen. It turned out differently that I had originall expected which made it all the better.
Fun book... I think I should study the "rules of conversation and diplomacy" too. :)
