I have a great respect for Malcolm Gladwell's research and writing. Wow! Such thought provoking ideas. This is the type of information I like to discuss and share. After reading this book, I discovered that I am a maven! I love the way that Malcolm intertwines stories as examples of concepts throughout his books. Fascinating! Although I didn't agree with his premise in one of the later chapters that children are not influenced by their parents. Really? Then why in the world did God put us in families? Gladwell had study findings to back it up, but I bet there is research that would support the opposite idea as well. Anyhoo, as always with Gladwell, the book was food for thought! ...more

I just could not get into this book! I took me over 2 months to read. I felt it was very similar to Freakanomics and I enjoyed that one so much more. My favorite part of the book was the Afterward.

Truly interesting! A lot of case studies of how epidemics (social, criminals, medical) occur.
Content: clean, one or two darns or hecks. Discussion of suicides. If you have any history (or family history) with suicide, you may want to skip chapter 7.
