While this book was a little unbelievable at times, it was also intriguing, kept me listening when I should have been doing other things, and made me research and learn. It is sad how little I knew about the Berlin Wall, but my kids are not so uneducated. I started listening to this audiobook and now they are all listening. Wow, I haven't devoured a book like this in a long time. The story grabbed me from the very beginning and I could hardly look away. I love historical fiction and I've always been fascinated by this time period (the Berlin Wall/Cold War era). This was juvenile fiction, but I am glad it was. The voice of the main character (a 12-year-old girl) was so fresh, innocent, and real to me. I love good historical fiction, especially ones that make me want to learn more about the subject. I can't imagine how it felt watching the Berlin Wall go up. But to know you had family on the other side would be devastating. Great read!
