Although I liked the overall story and pace of this book, I could not stomach the ending. It did not ring true for me. And even though I really only enjoy reading happily ever after books, it didn't feel complete.

If books were a meal, Julianne Donaldson's books wouldn't be my main course ... but I certainly enjoy a sweet treat every once in awhile, and I'm sure glad her books are there for that! In some ways, this was a lot like Edenbrooke: clean Regency romance that I can devour in a day or so. But I thought this one was better -- maybe I could identify with the serious, brooding heroine out on the moors. I also loved that this was based on a real place. I didn't enjoy it as much as Edenbrooke. I'm always frustrated when the main character is obsessive and moody. This is probably more fun for the audience it was intended since Kate is only 17.
Also, while I thought the writing improved as the book went on, from a literary standpoint, I found a good deal of repetition in the descriptions and struggled sometimes with the conversation in context of 1820 England. ...more

Loved this one too. I devoured it in a day. I thought it was a little more believable than Edenbrooke, but for some reason the ending left me a little bit disappointed...I sort of felt like the momentum of the whole book stopped and then the closing chapter fell a tiny bit flat for me. But overall loved it. I'll read anything by her for a fun, clean, romantic read.

quick little clean, silly romance. I enjoyed it. just don't pick it apart and expect it to be realistic. :)
