This book takes off where the fairy tale of Cinderella leaves off.
Ella is now betrothed to Prince Charming. She is learning that it's hard to fit in with palace society, obey ALL of the many rules, and wishes that she could spend more time with her handsome Prince. She is in fact, learning that her life is not a fairy tale.
She begins to understand that this may not be the life that she wants to live, that she does not love Prince Charming, and that the life of a Princess is very boring.

The messages of taking charge of your own destiny instead of waiting for someone else to make you happy, finding purpose in life apart from finding Prince Charming, and that "happily ever after" takes work are all great ones. However, I'm still annoyed with Haddix's portrayal of the young. I found the dialogue to be too modern for a medieval time period and her characters continued to be flat stereotypes. This is a fun continuation of the Cinderella story. Ella in this book finds that she doesn't care for life in the castle and discovers the really doesn't care for Prince Charming. What she does about it is a very enjoyable tale.

Maybe a 3.5-3.75 stars. But actually a 4 works too.
Great. Thanks Margaret Peterson Haddix. Now I'm going to be thinking Prince Charming was an idiot!!
Quick read, and I enjoyed it. This is the continuation of the story after Cinderella moves into the castle after Prince Charming asks her to marry him. It starts maybe two months? or more before the wedding.

Yes, another fairy tale adaptation. I am obsessed I tell you. What can I say, I have adored fairy tales since I was a wee girl, and I still do, and I will FOREVER. This book tells the "true" story behind Cinderella. I liked her idea of what really happened, and how she made Ella a strong, independent girl.

I read this book in like a day. So it is a quick and easy read. I liked to hear about Cinderella's life after the ball. But I am a sucker for the fairy tale and it kind of changes my view on it, not necessarily for the better. Overall it is worth a read.
