I did find this quite a difficult read as I didn't really take to her a a person. Not in any judgmental way, I just found her self-absorbed and difficult to relate to. However, the account of her Mother's death is harrowing to say the least. I had a similar experience as her and it brought all my Mum's illness back, so that was tremendously hard to get through. But I am glad I did. As she reaches the end of the trail, she does find the peace of mind she so desperately needs and I am glad she did ...more

I like people who have grit and determination. Cheryl definitely had that. Regardless of her choices she did something so few people would ever think of doing. Kudos to her for her journey. There was no great enlightenment in the book for Cheryl but I imagine it was the beginning for her.

If you need motivation to get off your arse and change your life yourself- this is it! She doesn't sit around waiting for someone to come along and do it for her- strong, great for male and female readers- although as a woman I naturally related more... After a slightly stuttering start, I really got into this and enjoyed it. Aspects of it were a bit grating, but I really admired her grit and determination to complete this considerable journey, so I will waver up to four stars rather than down to three, though in reality it is probably a 3.5.

I wanted to love this book, I certainly admire Cheryl's determination to get out on the trail, to challenge and find herself. I love the gutsy-ness of setting off ill prepared and learning as you go. But I was bored reading this, just getting to the end felt like an endurance itself. ...more
