I thought the idea of this book was absolutely brilliant. However, I thought Conrad tried too hard to emulate the British style of writing and failed in his attempt. Moreover, English WAS Conrad's third language, and it is quite incredible at how expansive his vocabulary is for English being his third language. I just thought the story did not flow consistently, and I found myself tripping on what I was reading.
