What Members Thought

The Giver of Stars was such a wonderful ride. Historical fiction inspired by the pack horse librarians of 1930s Kentucky, it tells of the lives of 5 women who come together as strangers and end up devoted friends.
There’s was not a story I didn’t enjoy in this novel. From the main ladies - Alice and Marjorie - to the supporting women, Jojo Moyes told their stories so well. I cared about the lives of each and every one of them.

This story is about the packhorse librarians in the Appalachian mountains of Kentucky. There is some historical context but the main story focuses on women who are misfits in society coming to terms with their own plans for their lives. Everything at the end is miraculously tied up with a neat bow. Current timing played a lot into how I read this book. It felt very slow for the first half because the world was so surreal.
