I'm going to give it 3.5 stars because it entertained me enough to keep reading after I was a bit put off by the romance. I love that it was a pirate book. I don't think I've read anything that was pirate related so it was very refreshing. The pace was great and the writing was very smooth.

I do like Alosa as a character. I did not find her whiny at all. She is headstong and confident. I feel like we need more female characters like Alosa. She knows what she wants and does what she has to do to

Action, drama. I enjoyed it all. All Alosa smartness her funniness.
Alosa a Pirate and the daughter of the pirate king that was sent on a mission by her father. She must be strong but not too strong. She must be wise but not too wise. She can't give herself away. But the brother Riden the captain Draxen brother tend to be a little bit too curious of Alosa.
Great story I can't wait for part two.

A very fun and quick read

This one was just pure fun. The characters were funny, the ship full of BA lady pirates was amazing and there were a couple of twists I didn't see coming. It was a very quick read and definitely worth your while.

That said, there also wasn't a lot of THERE there. I'm definitely hoping this first book is the author hiding her light under a bushel, Alosha style, to get us to underestimate the plot depth of this duology and come away from the next book blown away. Because al

This was good but not great. It's like a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean and Carriger's Espionage & Etiquette, but with more blood and violence, and less fun.

Full confession: from about the 60% mark to the 80% mark, I drifted in and out of sleep while listening to this audiobook (because I was in bed with a migraine), and I didn't feel like I missed anything.

I was fine with the romance parts, but I'm the type of reader who thinks a romance livens up almost any book.
