I read a lot of YA, but it's all fantasy and dystopia. I don't read much straight-up YA like this, but this book has been at the center of a few controversies, and my daughter wants to see the movie, so I was curious. Well. This was a book that I literally could not put down - I think I finished it in about 2 hours. I'm not really sure what it was that grabbed me so much - I would not say this was reflective of my own personal high school experience or even life experience. That said, who can't connect with the feeling of being an outsider, or loving someone, or finding that first group that helped you feel lik e apart of something. Wow, I was actually shocked by how this book ended. I wasn't sure where it was going or how it was going to get there and then BAM! Knocked me back! It is always more powerful when a book elicits emotion and this did, but only at the end. I wish I felt more throughout.
