The beginning of the book made me laugh at almost every page, mainly because of the weird 'mum' and her 'matchless' statements and behavior; it also struck me this story is actually a bit sad. Then the whole correspondence between the ladies Soo-Lin and Audrey Griffin, out of this world funny at times, priceless! The last say 40 pages of the book however I lost

This book was an intense read. This was the first book that I had read where the main character was agoraphobic and just plain mean. I am like Bernadette to a small degree. I am an introvert with very poor social skills. It was interesting to learn about Bernadette's history. One silly thing I really thought cute was the dog was named Ice Cream. I could almost die at the cuteness of it. I will definitely read Maria Semple's other books, she is an amazing author. ...more

This is a nice story about the relation between a teenager and her mother that is a woman that has to learn to find herself and the place that she has in the world. Is a fast read that is made in a epistolary way that allow us to discover that there is way more behind each of the characters that are in the book and how each of them need to learn to find their own place in the world and assume that their "perfect world" is not as perfect as it seems. ...more

all the antics/adventures were great.
the style reminds me of a new-yorkian blog and some of the seattle idiosyncrasies where spot on... some not so much.
but the humor. the humor was well written and sort of slapstick and funny.
