WOW!!! What an awesome writer Celeste Ng is. I am right away going to get her first book she wrote because I love the way she writes. She is descriptive but not so overly descriptive that it's annoying and ridiculous. She wove such a great story and you got to know each and every character so well.

Such good writing. I don't have daughters, but I am one, and also simply as a parent could relate to many of the emotions in this book. I liked this better than Everything I Never Told You, but both display her excellent writing and ability to get inside the lives of families. ...more

An unexpected story, read for the asian author readathon for May 2020.

I was surprised by how invested I got into this book, which turned out to be a modest domestic drama set in a random American town. Two families become intertwined by their childrens' interactions and some local drama. The plot was rather simple and more focused on the familys' lives. I don't have much to say on this except the start of the book was really disorienting in the audio format and I felt lost and confused.

Really engaging book that made me think a lot about privilege, motherhood, and adoption. Ethical issues aren’t always cut and dry.
