I thought this was a great WWII book. I recommend this book to everyone…what an important part of our history. Sad, oh so very sad part of history though.

I honestly don’t know what to say about this book that hasn’t already been said. It’s an absolutely beautifully written, heart wrenching story about love, survival and what a person will do to protect what they hold dear.

I made it almost halfway through the audio version when my checkout period ended and I decided it wasn't worth using another of my limited checkouts for the month to finish it.

I think in part, I've read too much WWII fiction, but mainly, I just really didn't like the main character, Isabelle. ...more

The sacrifices of others

This tale reminds me how fortunate we are for the sacrifices made for us by our parents and grandparents.

I too had a father who came home different. I’m a baby boomer who never knew my father’s hard ships endured during WWII until years after his passing.

This tale has focused me on how fortunate we are. A lot of our issues are ‘first’ world and in the scheme of things not something to be worked up about.
