So far my favorite of the series. It's happy, sad, and everything in between. Having just finihsed it I am at a loss for more expressive words. I just am sitting staring at the next book kniwing I need to go on wondering if I'm ready. I seriously feel for people who can not get so into a book (any book) that they miss out on this kind of feeling. ...more

Shadow Kiss is the third book in the Vampire Academy series, and in my opinion, is the best thus far. Richelle Mead has woven action, romance, and politics into an amazing addition to the series.

Shadow Kiss is the third book in the Vampire Academy series, and in my opinion, is the best thus far. Richelle Mead has woven action, romance, and politics into an amazing addition to the series.

Rose, our heroine, is still dealing with the pain of losing one of her best friends at the end of Frostbite. More than that, she's starting to see Mason's ghost, but is it really him, or is Rose starting to lose her mind due to being shadow-kissed? In this book we get a good amount of information on what it means to be shadow-kissed, and what exactly it can do to someone. As it's not something that happens often, answers are not easy to find.

Rose is still training to be a guardian for her best friend, Lissa, the last in the Dragomir line. In this book we also get to see just how much the "they come first" rule means. On top of dealing with her own problems, Rose is also keeping a close eye on Lissa, to make sure the effects of Spirit aren't taking their toll on her.

In this book, the senior dhampirs are taking their guardian trials, which means for weeks they are assigned a moroi who they have to guard. As part of the test, the real Guardians and teachers play the "Strigoi", attacking the students to test how well they guard their charges.

And of course, it's not a true Vampire Academy book without our favorite sexy, Russian dhampir, Dimitri. The attraction between him and Rose is portrayed perfectly, and it's clear that it's getting more and more difficult for the two of them to keep their relationship strictly professional. I like how things turned out for them.

Adrian was in the book as well, and I'm surprised at how much I like him. As someone who is romantically interested in Rose, I didn't think I would like him so much; I'm all for Rose and Dimitri. But Adrian is a funny, charming character who I couldn't help but love. Although I dont want him with Rose, I'd like to see him happy; I just want it to be with someone else.

The ending will likely cause many readers to scream and throw their copy at the nearest wall; yes, the cliffhanger is that bad. But fortunately, the next book in the series, Blood Promise, is out, so readers can start on the next book immediately. ...more
