I've read several of Agatha Christie's books, but this is the first time I've read this gem, which marks the first appearance of Hercule Poirot. Like most Christie novels, this was an excellent read. I was particularly fond of the often-clueless narrator, Arthur Hastings.

This is the first Hercule Poirot mystery, and from what I understand, not the best. I haven't read other Poirot novels, but I hope this is true. Hastings was incredibly irritating. The characters are casually anti-Semitic. The use of the n-word, while probably accurate to the time written and not directed at a person, was startling. The mystery was okay, and did keep me guessing, but I honestly did not care that much.
