I'm not really sure how I feel about this other than to say, it wasn't for me.
I found the murder mystery interesting. I did not really care for Eve or Roarke, or...anyone except maybe Mavis.
This book should have warning tags--I don't know if it does but it could definitely trigger some people as there is (view spoiler) ***Spoilery Review***

I found the murder mystery interesting. I did not really care for Eve or Roarke, or...anyone except maybe Mavis.

I think Eve was a good cop, and I felt she was strong there, most of the time, but her relationship with Roarke was incredibly unhealthy. Like, Run, honey, run far away. I don't really buy into this whole " I said no, but you see a flash of desire in my eyes, so do what you want anyway and in the end, I love it" kind of thing. That's not Alpha, that's abuse. I also think Eve was...unlikable personally. She was more than just stand offish, more than just putting people at arms length. She was remote and cold and I didn't like her. I never really warmed, the only saving grace for her was her dedication to her job, and maybe that was part of the point with this first novel, she didn't seem to think she was anything more than her job, without it, she would be nothing and maybe we were supposed to really see that and she will change and grow with the series--I certainly hope so.
The murder mystery part wasn't difficult once we got to a certain point, I didn't have every little detail figured, but (view spoiler)
There were aspects of the story I enjoyed, I could have gone forever and a day without the victim and perp's pov, and there were other times when the violence seemed so graphic to me, not necessarily a bad thing int his type of book, just not really my thing. I may give another in this series a go, I'm not sure. ...more

This series is something I just put off reading, no specific reason. I like things by Nora Roberts especially her romantic suspense which this is similar to. I haven't cared for some of the fantasy trilogies though and thought these might be along those lines. However, I picked up this first volume at a book sale and was happily surprised that it is futuristic romantic suspense. The plot was very good and the romantic connection well done.
