The most interesting thing I got out of this was the bit near the beginning when she is explaining about clothing and how attempts were made to limit class and social movement based on what people wore. It was fascinating and I kept wishing more for this kind of social history through the rest of the book. It was clearly well researched and Tuchman tried to make complicated interwoven facts interesting but there are only so many Popes and Kings I can be interested in without the additional backg

I read some chapters years ago and simply couldn't help thinking that's enough then. Some episodes were too horrible as we could see from various drawings, however, I have my admiration and respect to those scholars in the Middle Ages who wrote to inform/record history as part of our civilized worlds to come.
