Set in the 1930s, the book paints a vivid picture of life in New York City – from the glamorous to the squalid, of carefree youth to the consequence of choice, of self confidence and secrecy. The writing is brilliant, the wittiness spot on and the interspersing of literary references is incredibly perfect. This book and A Gentleman in Moscow have got to be two of the best books I have ever read.
Amor's writing transports you to New York city in 1937 and although he does not go into great character development, I still feel I know a ton about each character.
This is a great read and I highly recommend it and his Moscow book as well. I cannot wait until he publishes his next novel. ...more
